2026 2L Summer Associate - Anchorage, Portland, or Seattle

Schwabe is one of the top law firms serving the needs of businesses in the Pacific Northwest, providing a broad range of transactional and litigation services to the Northwest’s leading companies. We are looking for people who demonstrate aptitude, leadership, teamwork, and strong verbal and written communication skills to join the 2026 Summer Associate program in our Anchorage, Portland, or Seattle office.

We are looking for people who embrace an entrepreneurial spirit and take initiative. A strong desire to practice law in a regional setting is key. We are looking for our firm’s future leaders.

Summer Associates begin in early June and receive a weekly salary of at least $2,700. During the program, summer associates receive formal and informal evaluations of their work from a dedicated supervisor and a number of assigning attorneys. Summer associates can expect to work with associates and shareholders conducting research and drafting memoranda, pleadings, and legal updates for continuing education purposes.

Criteria:

  • Applicants are required to be attending an ABA-accredited law school;
  • A top 25% class ranking or equivalent GPA is preferred; and
  • Moot court and/or law review experience is preferred.

Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Patent Attorney or Agent – Bend, Portland, or Seattle

  • 2+ years of experience in biotech patent prosecution
  • Advanced degree in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or molecular and cellular biology
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent academic credentials and professional references
  • Demonstrated ownership of projects and willingness to work in a team-oriented setting, but with significant independence
  • Strong client service ethics
  • USPTO registration required
  • Oregon or Washington bar, or eligibility for reciprocity is required for attorneys

Corporate Attorney (5+ years) – Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver

  • Effectively able to work on large M&A transactions as well as smaller transactions
  • Ability to manage complex transactions, including client-ready documents, client exposure, and interacting across offices and practice groups
  • Experience serving clients in at least one of our seven key industries, particularly within a law firm setting (preferred)
  • Strong entrepreneurial, growth, and client service mindset

    • Wealth transfer strategies and advice, including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and community-property agreements
    • Trust and probate administration and controversies
    • Charitable organization advice
    • Guardianships and conservatorships
  • Ability to provide tax support for Schwabe's business transition and succession planning practice
  • Knowledge of community property law (Washington)
  • Washington State Bar and Oregon State Bar admission required

  • Some portable book of business and/or demonstrated success in developing a client portfolio
